If you have some familiarity with a field where LLM's are causing efficiency gains, the claim that AI does nothing useful or is even a net negative is strange, but these arguments usually do presume AI is useless or worse, so every bit of material used is a net environmental negative.

Well I don't think it's quite that because the chat logs in some cases do show active assistance and concealment. But they don't you know start out there.
