Uh, so.... I vibe-coded an entire replacement for ChemDraw that works with AI agents. It was about 8 months of work, and the goal is just open-source-stop-dependeing-on-american-paywalled-software. It has a plugin API, it comes with claude/codex skill docs check it out: jgassens.github.io/ChemDraft/

Am now officially a noted AI hater: Good piece on AI in the chemistry classroom, and what we need to think about. I note that I see uses for responsible AI use. Just like I see uses for responsible use of complete answer keys to exams being released before the exam.

A few folks have asked how I make molecular animations from ChemDraw. Sadly, the answer has been “the old-fashioned way,” frame by frame. This was too slow. So I worked with Claude Science to create a webpage that animates your ChemDraws. Give it a try: rshenvi.github.io/cdxmorph/
