We've read that paper really closely. It's lovely. There is another mystery: how does the COPII vesicle find its target membrane? This is not nearly as simple a question as it might appear. No one, including us, knows what the minimal set of proteins needed is. We hope that we are nearing answers.

Looking at molecular densities of membranes and protein complexes is the most direct way to learn about membrane trafficking. @dr-downes.bsky.social and the Giulia Zanetti team showed the organisation of E exit sites. These hot spots handle virtually all transmembrane proteins in the cell.
