Something that gets me about most gendered socialization discussions is that we know cross-sex socialization is real because a minority of kids exhibit it pretty clearly. Showing the typical preferences, attitudes, and behaviors of the opposite sex, all on their own, even against pushback.

This can persist into lifelong patterns, too. Men who were effeminate boys in this way often have female-typical inclinations in the jobs they choose, the interests they have as adults, the way they're perceived by others, and this comes with social consequences similar to what women deal with.
