The older I get the more I realize how much a person is truly left behind in certain ways when they don’t have good parents. Also how many people, for most of my life, have measured “good parenting” by whether or not the kid survived childhood. Never mind what condition this new adult was left in.

As a progressive homeschooling parent, the "parental rights" framing drives me nuts. I don't homeschool my kids because it is my right against the government. It's a way to help them learn about themselves and grow in a cooperative community. Safeguards do not impede that goal at all
