Yeah what we’re seeing isn’t a country that now views the US as its primary military threat and is preparing accordingly. What we’re seeing is a set of *deeply* continentalist institutions being forced, haltingly and with great reluctance, to confront reality.

Which is rational! Canada does not want any of this, they do not want the alliance to die, they do not want the relationship with the united states to collapse. But America has chosen that, and while Canada can hope we change course, they also need to prepare. None of that is contradictory
