A point can sit perfectly still while everything around it spins. Euler proved in 1776 that every rotation has a fixed center, and your brain just can't trust it.

Looking into the constellation Lacerta for 5 hrs and you end up with quite the star field. I just find this amazing. This is through the local Milky Way disk and into the outer arm regions, Wow! There are are over 200,000 stars in this one image. Exp: 5 hrs, 10/05/26 #astronomy #astrophotography

Yesterday I gave a talk about oceanography and remote sensing to a group of teens and teachers. Always fun (and challenging!). I brought a small infrared camera and passed it along to explain those measurements, I think that's what they liked the most 😅. Here's a picture with part of the group 😀🌊🧪

A l'entorn de l'estrella PDS 70, dos gegants han obert un disc de formació planetària. Un d'ells, PDS 70c, encara creix i té un disc de pols propi, un bressol on podrien néixer tres llunes. Mai s'havia vist un disc així al voltant d'un planeta.

Avui Júpiter apareix just al costat de la Lluna. Semblen veïns al cel, però a l'espai els separa una gran distància: és efecte de la perspectiva. Una bona ocasió per aixecar la vista i identificar el gegant del sistema solar.
