Watching a podcast with a former OpenAI safety researcher and TIL that AI models are multilingual. Seems obvious given they’re trained in part on the contents of the internet, but it hadn’t occurred to me. Lots of implications.

The SAVE database is notoriously slow in being updated. I'm an immigration attorney & my clients' medical and driver's licenses often depend on SAVE verification. I can't tell you how many times they get an initial rejection because SAVE hasn't been updated. Using that database for voter reg insane.

add to this, americans have a need to believe in the inherent "goodness" of American businesses that, in reality, amounts to little more than rancid farts in the wind. people regularly confuse affect (how a company's projected image incites positive emotion) with material reality, and it shows....
