Blade Runner isn't trying to entertain or distract you. It's trying to depress you. It's a film where human life means less than usual, because it might not even be human. But ironically, it's the dehumanized who live the fullest lives. It's not a thriller, it's just existential persecution.
Show PostI'm not even willing to give it "a couple of vaguely interesting ideas." Sicario's style suggests more substance than it really has. Villeneuve and Deakins gave the film a sense of self-loathing, as if it hated itself for its own world view. In retrospect that was a feint. It was fine with itself.

I asked Death to snag the politicians and billionaire a-holes, and he took David Lynch and Tony Slattery. You could NOT have missed harder, you %$&@-ass Storm Trooper.
