I remembered there a section in the R packages book about something like this: r-pkgs.org/lifecycle.ht... Maybe the recommendation to use lifecycle::deprecate_soft as a warning for a few versions makes sense?

I love learning about this kind of stuff, there's so many interesting little things like "The rev() function provides a reversed version of its argument. If you wish to sort in decreasing order, sort(x, decreasing = TRUE) is marginally (around 10%) faster than rev(sort(x))."
