If the election hadn’t happened yet, the media would be talking about how costly Thanksgiving dinner is, but since the election is over, the media tells us that the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner is down—lower. How quickly a narrative change!

It’s crazy, the local news (KTLA in Los Angeles) is on at work, and just minutes ago they reported that Thanksgiving dinner will cost 19% more this year and that many are opting not to host, but I didn’t hear them cite any sources and I was wondering if that could possibly be true.

Good news, but the way they frame this story is ridiculous, lamenting that the cost of dinner has gone up 19% in five years. Five years! That works out to 3.5% annual inflation, which is pretty ordinary for the past 40 years. This kind of context-free reporting is why the public is so ill-informed.
