@lopezfitzgerald.bsky.socialYou mean the West-Africans still resent the British for shutting down their profitable slave trade business?
Show PostI think that's kind of proving the point. If your Irish heritage was so important to you you would have been registered already before your kids were born. As it is you had kids as a Brit, Brexit happened and then you discovered an Irish nan meant you could beat Brexit. Same for me.
Show PostAnd now Brits are refused their preferred job for not having an Irish mother, plus ca change. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. The point still stands if this heritage was so important to you you'd already have been Irish before your kids were born, instead of waiting until it was expedient.
Show PostYes but the fact it was not an option for every Brit is deeply unfair. Take my example for instance, there is nothing Irish about me just the luck of having a nan born in Ireland, meanwhile I could have a half brother exactly the same upbringing as me yet he's not eligible.
Show PostWell I don't know what its like for France but if you stop doing the paperwork the link is broken and it can't be passed on (as is the case for Stu and I) now if the heritage is so important to you wouldn't want to let the link be broken as it eventually fades completely once broken.
