I think the chance to say anything of value was lost as soon as they deviated from the books and the obvious focus and changing of characters due to their popularity. Sometimes I wish the show hadn't been made, as I suspect it might have played a part in him now maybe never finishing up the books.

Nothing is lost mechanically with hotdog enemies, they're more fun to fight than pretty much any humanoid vr enemy I've fought (boneworks nullbodies are a close 2nd tho), they're funny, and, arguably most importantly in retrospect, they are SO efficient as an npc base and are aesthetically pleasing.
