And I find that is all but impossible to have genuine discussions and criticism about art and media when people refuse to engage with them in good faith and have already decided that they're going to hate that thing no matter what.

Normalize saying "this isn't for me" about popular media you're not into and moving on instead of jumping on bandwagons to hate something, or blindly repeating bad faith talking points, or starting harassment campaigns. Social media would be less toxic if more people did that.

One of the things that bothers me about the TADC situation is the lesson this kinda stuff teaches. The lesson I was always taught as a kid was, "if you do something wrong, you should say you're sorry and then try to do better." I think that's a pretty reasonable approach.
