And I need people to really focus on that last part. How you feel/I about AI is irrelevant in two respects: 1. It now exists with/out our help. 2. People use it for therapy and socializing. If people explore/escalate IRL abuse, or it learns and repeats back to the vulnerable, it can kill. It HAS.

Here, it's irrelevant if the machine "feels" (and I'm not arguing for that). Instead, the user delivering evils upon mirror reflecting humanity is potentially horrifying (slurs, abuse,threats) Moreso, Again, that the machine absorbs those behaviors and directs them back at humans. A grave concern.

This isn't putting a few extra holes/roasting in a Skyrim NPC. (Guilty as charged.) This is people who are using AI, and thus *see value* in it, even entertainment, pulling the darkest elements out of themselves. Performing these things to a human simulacrum. Hateplay they can't get away doing IRL.

I'm sorry but this is a really complicated topic and my reply needs to be more than two sentences in order for me to not just say "nu-uh" or calling arguments obtuse. TLDR: Shutting it down yesterday would be best, but discouraging bad behavior is a net positive, regardless if it's sapient. So:1/4

And if the logs are used for further training, these moments also normalize cruelty in the model. I think this is an article that is going to cause a lot of quoters to miss the point a little, due to how much we all hate AI these days.
