Ok now I’ve gone down a literature rabbit hole learning everything I can about fossilized methane seeps - apparently these were much shallower (100-200m) than most modern day analogues in the deep sea!

Check out the new paper led by Qicheng Bei in my group, showing that internal standard corrected metagenomic abundances of single copy genes are in excellent agreement with SYBR Green epifluorescrnce counts of bacteria and archaea at our SPOT time series, 2 years monthly, surface to 890m.
