Like there are varying degrees to this stuff. There's room for Martyrs and The Others to coexist. All I insist on is that at some point some attempt to be horrifying exists at any level.

Thinking back to that response I got, it is really rubbing me raw I did say specifically I am not asking for all horror to be extreme or brutal and then it get framed as if that is what I am demanding along with the heavily gendered terms thrown at me.

Genuinely I love OTGW. It's a seasonal watch for me for a reason. Ditto for Scooby Doo Mystery Inc which has a lotta fun stuff for adult horror fans. But trying to treat it as if it were adult media is fucking weird and embarrassing.

There’s nothing embarrassing about enjoying a children’s story as an adult! There is something embarrassing about pretending it’s not a children’s story. (Ditto not really liking horror or not liking dark/scary/upsetting fiction vs writing an article where you purport to define a horror subgenre)
