Exactly this. A first draft is supposed to give you something to work with, not prove that you can write a perfect book in one pass. Do you usually discover your biggest story problems while writing the first draft, or only once you go back to revise?

I loved the Dune series and was so disappointed in the original film. These later ones are good but not fantastic. Like your list! Also some fantasy like Mists of Avalon (Bradley).
