Happy birthday to Thomas Newman, BOTD in 1955. The prolific film composer is part of Hollywood's legendary Newman family, the youngest son of Alfred Newman. He's scored over 90 films in every conceivable genre. "If you fail, fail fast enough so you can regroup and do it better." #filmsky #moviesky

It really is. Watching it again soon.
Show PostIt’s Jean-Pierre Melville’s birthday. Army of Shadows is a masterpiece about the French Resistance. The camerawork, ticking clock & Lino Ventura’s subtle performance had me enrapt during this scene when he was being held by the Nazis for interrogation. youtu.be/wViuaS5HHM8?...
Show PostThe disturbing question one always asks oneself is would I have been the resistance fighter or the quisling? You don’t know until you’re in that moral crucible.
Show PostIt’s a movie that left me feeling deeply depressed as well as inspired. So many brave French people paid a horrible price for trying to fight back against the Nazis whilst their fellow countrymen became willing quislings.
