The Tempra was part of a complex series of related Fiat group models, including the Lancia Dedra and Alfa Romeo 155. Improved durability was a big part of the car's sales pitch: this 1993 UK brochure called it 'the culmination of Fiat's absolute commitment to quality and reliability'.
Show PostThe Dedra was Lancia's new small executive saloon for the '90s, but it struggled to make much impact in the UK market, where the marque had been slow to recover from the Beta rust scandal of years before. Its career was cut short in 1994 when Lancia abruptly abandoned RHD production. #carbluesky
Show PostAlfa Romeo's integration into the Fiat empire saw the Alfa 75 saloon replaced by the new 1992 Alfa 155, which shared a platform with the Fiat Tempra and Lancia Dedra. Most models were thus front-wheel-drive, but its sporting flagship was this 4WD Quadrifoglio 4. #weirdcarbs
Show PostThe Fiat Croma was the marque's important new large offering for the mid-'80s and beyond. A member of the 'Type Four' family, it was very closely related to the Lancia Thema/Saab 9000 and more distantly to the Alfa Romeo 164, and featured a hatchback despite its saloon-like side profile. #carbluesky
Show PostBy 1994 the larger Mazda Xedos 9 arrived. The would-be 5-series rival was known as the Mazda Millennia in North America and the Eunos 800 in Japan and Australia. The Xedos name proved a fleeting episode in Mazds history: the 6 and 9 models were retired in 1999 without a direct replacement.
