I’m assuming you mean more character focused? Well, yes that’s a perfectly legitimate way to use serialised storytelling. I would love to see Star Trek tell a story over the course of multiple seasons in a heavily serialised way, there’s a lot of potential.

The law is the law (in the sense that they broke it and must pay). But I'll say this: copyright is blocking people's access to knowledge and LLM are just the obvious example of how deleterious copyright is to accumulate knowledge. We should get rid or reform copyright law, not pretend is a good law
