More detail: the "paint" is a polyurethane-type coating. It must be sprayed on in blocks and the blocks must overlap and bond. The poly shrinks when it dries, putting tension on the seams and its bond with the stone below. With bad prep, it'll tear itself apart, which is what seems to have happened.

Me: So? Him: They dried it for a day or two. It takes a couple weeks of good weather to get the water out of the stone. And then you have to spend time really scrubbing it, and then drying it again. But they slammed it thru, like idiots. Every contractor in the US knows they hired a moron.
