My latest for @science.org: Radar maps of sinking coastlines produced using InSAR can show dramatically different, even constrasting, results. Before this work makes its way to guiding efforts in the real world, a hard look is needed, researchers say.

An important update for this InSAR story just posted: After the story went live, I heard back from Manoochehr Shirzaei. (VTech has aggressive spam filters it seems.) They are contesting some of the study's claims, in particular its choice of upscaling the data to compare with the second study.

There are other technical disputes that are beyond the focus of the story. The essential story has not changed, but this debate will continue to play out in the literature. (And a hopefully even more robust discipline will emerge from it!) Here's their comment:
