Wow! Congratulations to Andrea Egan, the new General Secretary of UNISON. As a UNISON member, it was my pleasure to support Andrea. She will be a voice for all members, and will fight for the fairer society they deserve. See you on the picket line.

2025 was the year I consciously decided to stop taking advice, therapy, coaching etc. from people with substantially more advantaged material backgrounds to me. It was a good call. It just doesn’t work. I should have decided sooner. (It also led to challenging work conversations - but hey ho!)

It’s frustrating seeing journalists reporting on the Unison General Secretary election primarily in party political instead of trade union terms. Andrea Egan won promising to raise the expectations of public sector workers. That could well have a big industrial relations impact very soon.

This is a massive victory for the left - and workers. And a big defeat for Keir Starmer. Left-wing candidate Andrea Eagan has been elected General Secretary of UNISON - the UK’s biggest union. I spoke to her earlier this year. Massive kudos!
