Recently went through Yokoyama's adaptation of Suikoden and was struck by how much of the cast was represented in Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still. For those interested, I put together a quick reference chart comparing the original manga incarnations with their OVA counterparts!

That is a pretty good image. I think you can see the evolution of Yokoyama's style if you compare Ryusaku in Tetsujin 28 (1956) to the Babel II sequel 101 (1979). Actually, his hairstyle in 2004 is from 101. 50s>60s>70s

2004 was a good anime with a strong story, but I feel like the character designs was an inaccurate imitation of the original manga. The 90s MARS OVA and flashback scenes in FX looked really good, and I wish there was a Tetsujin 28 anime that resembled it.

我很喜欢这部原著漫画。除了村雨兄弟，约翰逊和凯利也是我最喜欢的角色。我是用机器翻译写的这段话，如果读起来显得有些生涩或不专业，还请见谅。
