all of this (and the other thread) is to say that (IMO) good combat scenes don't describe things in excruciating, rules-compliant detail unless it adds to the scene. a 'Mech taking a PPC to the chest and falling over without fanfare is fine if there's more important shit to spend word count on

every now and then I write something that makes me go "wait is there a rule for this" and it's 50/50 on whether or not the game itself supports what I've written but even when it *doesn't* people seem to appreciate how those things add to the scene and I'm proud of that, damn it
