I ran the comparative tax vs pay-for-play numbers a few years ago. When you total all the services Canadians get from their taxes vs comparable services in the US, we in the US simply pay more for less... ...and US the education system is such that we proudly fight for our right to do so.

He mentioned paying taxes. In exchange for that you don't have private insurance premiums deducted from your paycheck anymore or have to buy coverage anymore elsewhere. Also your coverage isn't tied to your job so you're free to change jobs whenever you want without insurance as an issue.
