as far as visual influences go i'm pretty sure banjo kazooie/Rare was a big one given that miyamoto quote and OoT's glowup in 1997. i think situating OoT historically is interesting. for design there were plenty of 3D games to draw on at the time (tomb raider, MM legends, king's field 1-3, BK)

This is a really nice point and argues for pre-commitment strategies like buying tickets to film festivals in advance, signing up for a curated programming series, etc.

My hypothesis is that people are generally more predictable than they themselves would like to be, but less predictable than businesses would like them to be, and a lot of modern business is about building guiderails to increase that predictability ("personalisation" a big part of this)
