24th November 1983 I saw the Smiths with James at the Haçienda. In my diary I whinged how full it was ("Couldn't get to the bar"); enthused about James ("better than the Peel session"); described the end ("dozens of gladioli trampled underfoot"). Back two weeks later for the Cocteau Twins.
