When someone who has never previously made any mention of being neurodivergent is called out for bad behaviour claims either directly or through “friends” that actually, it was the autism wot did it, not only is it utterly cynical excuse making, it just serves to increase discrimination.

I get the point you’re making and it is frustrating. However, someone very close to me has just been diagnosed with neurodivergences in their middle age and it’s like the scales have dropped from my eyes. It’s an explanation for decades of frustrating behaviours.
