Degrowth is not "neo-malthusian". It is not "a process of voluntary adaptation to poverty". Degrowthers are quite optimistic and realistic about the actually existing abundance in the developed world. @jasonhickel.bsky.social has done great research showing that we literally have enough for everyone

The article is wrong in a way that could only come from not even have read the introduction of any degrowth text. The whole point is to shrink destructive production (particularly in historically hoarding parts of the world) in a planned and democratic manner. Austerity is not a goal or requirement.

Why do writers make up whatever they want about what the "degrowth agenda" is instead of just reading what actual academics in the movement write. More free time, more local food, more green spaces, less SUVs and planned obsolescence and fast fashion are absolutely an aspirational material vision.
