I really wish Biden hadn't pardoned Hunter. With what's coming, and how I expect the next administration to abuse the power of the pardon, Biden just neutered any future Democratic criticisms of Trump pardons for war criminals, cronies, J6 rioters, members of the military killing protesters, etc...

People who don’t consider themselves “criminals” underestimate how quickly things they take for granted having the right to do can become criminalized under authoritarianism. I have friends who’ve been imprisoned for years for protesting (Egypt) and defending a client as a human rights lawyer (KSA).

I’ve watched people who blogged mildly dissident political opinions be detained and tortured and have their families targeted. (Egypt/Bahrain) I’ve watched ER doctors who tended protesters shot and brutalized by government forces be rounded up, tortured, imprisoned, and, sometimes, killed. (Bahrain)
