I still think about this @bowjamesbow.ca blog post sometimes (omg 16 years later). bowjamesbow.ca/2010/03/14/h... It'll never happen, but we totally could make something like this work.
Show PostA wee 🧵of some thoughts, having just finished rereading Komarr, a later book in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga. I think this actually joins Memory and Brothers In Arms as a stand-out fave of the series for me. When I first read it, iirc, I liked it, but not as much as the previous one. BUT.
Show PostI first read this sometime in the early 00s, on the recommendation of my now-husband. Sometime in my...good god, early 20s. I didn't quite clock to how I got married, uh, not much older than Ekaterin did. She had a kid right away, so her exp felt way removed from mine at the time.
Show PostBut in hindsight...WOW, there but for the grace of god go I. My husband is a mensch and grew up a lot more effectively than Ekaterin's did. But that was good luck on my part much more than good management. 24 felt old af when I got married, but I look back now and go HOLY SHIT we were KIDS
Show PostAnyway it's really interesting to read Ekaterin's sad/resentful musings about cultivating one's marriage like a garden and where you fit between previous and upcoming generations now, having being married for 20+ years. They hit very different.
