There may well have been some sort of mistake involved here, but the fact that she had a flag in the system that in some way connected her name change to gender marker changes, without having ever changed her gender marker, is the salient part.

I'm known as a trans journalist who doesn't scaremonger or panic people unnecessarily. I think this story, combined with everything else we know about the Kansas law and the intentions behind it, is deeply, deeply concerning. If I lived in Kansas I would be trying to figure out an exit plan.
