The global left needs to be clear eyed about this. Comfortable middle class people don’t vote for far right parties because of material deprivation. Germans have more economic prosperity now than they ever have. Same is true for Americans.

There are both a lot of problems with American healthcare relative to peers, and a shitload of magical thinking among a lot of lefty Americans about the actual tradeoffs involved in healthcare as a policy issue. Eg: people get upset if you point out that provider pay going down is necessary for M4A.

Holding socio economic status constant I would still definitely rather be a Canadian for something catastrophic like cancer, but for elective, preventative, or quality of life things it’s often a wash as to which you’d rather. For some things US is better.

The first labor secretary is the one that gets me. She had an actually not horrible labor record in congress. She promptly started having affairs with direct reports and letting her husband sexually harass her staff. Even beyond policy the culture of the administration is insane.
