it kills me when I see someone complain about a single typo in a published book bc I'm like listen that is not a typo, that is a SURVIVOR that made it past ten gazillion pairs of eyeballs, and it should be honored as such

A lot of people don't know how we read. We don't read by spelling out every letter in a word. That would take forever. We read by looking at the shape of the word, and the first and last letters, and as long as those align with what we expect we assume what the word is and move on.

Whenever I see articles about alleged "indoctrination" of teenagers by professors, I wonder: "Has this writer ever met a teenager or tried to get a teenager to do something?" Reality: professors are possibly the least influential people in the teens' lives. We can't even get them to do the reading.
