there's a lot about new york and new yorkers that is annoying, but one thing that it commendable is that there is exactly this kind of boisterous and unapologetic pride in being a cosmopolitan place. more places should be like that.

i do unironically think people that are cosmopolitan need sorta paradoxically be more chauvinist about it tbh. places and people that are cosmopolitan in outlook are better than places that are provincially minded. the kind of performative handwringing about not being 'authentic' is bad and weak.
