'couples therapy' is something an abusive or exploitative partner tries as a last ditch effort to keep their abusee roped in to their system

I think it's selection bias; couples therapy prob can work if both parties are acting in good faith but thats surely outweighed by abusive relationships where couples therapy can only make things worse bc if both parties are acting in good faith it's not likely to get to the point of needing therapy
