I don't really buy the Woke 1/Woke 2 stuff - ideas people call "woke" were and remain mostly good and correct, now and then - but the people who have repurposed this vocabulary to pursue a labyrinthine and ultimately irresolvable series of feuds and grudges really did not do us any favors

I’m not trying to downplay the shock. But as you say, these are internationally renowned actors, and tomorrow they still will be. Tomorrow he’ll wake up with the same compulsions. His suffering is unending and if you punish him for it, that punishment will be endless too.

I just really struggle with the image of giving an award to the actor who played the disabled man struggling to find social acceptance… and then excluding the man himself, because you think his disability is unacceptable. It’s almost parable-like in its precise depiction of false acceptance
