I read a book recently about Assad's various atrocities over the last 15 years and something that kept coming up is that ppl who were relatively isolated from the carnage didn't believe it was happening at all just bc they literally couldn't hold that Syrians could do this to other Syrians

And this torturous murder is happening to people who literally did not break any laws and did not do anything wrong and the news cycle just keeps a spinning Its not always a conscious fear or sorrow for me but I feel like the ambient terrorism of it all can't not be affecting me

I've had ketoacidosis before due to diabetic complications. You feel your body shutting down and you're getting direct signals from yourself that YOU ARE DYING, YOU ARE ABOUT TO DIE and its terrifying and horrible. A firing squad would be more humane if it turned out there was no chance to save you
