I love how major midcentury nonfiction books don’t feature any attempt to provide evidence for their claims, it’s just all brazen posting in book form.
Show PostLots of media stories where middle/upper class worry about downward mobility but I'm not sure we see this in the data. Seems like earnings volatility, for example, has actually fallen in recent history. (from www.grid-database.org)
Show PostLike people do not seem to say this in surveys. They say "we are mad about high prices". Maybe the uncertainty is causing the frustration with prices, but I'd like to see the dots connected.
Show PostThe "this is about increased uncertainty" thesis is interesting. But I'd like someone to actually demonstrate it.
Show Post“It’s real, even if it doesn’t show up in charts.” How do you know it’s real, then? How do you know that you’re not simply insisting on a reality you prefer, in the face of evidence? How would you support your view? Is it falsifiable, at all? How are you any different from MAGA in this respect?
