There are so many interesting stories that are being completely left by the wayside by the new "indie wave" purely because the way that it's paid for absolutely sucks and is unstable in every way. There's a reason the giant studios can do more animation, and it's mostly about stability of income.

We need more money to go into the indie "system" that isn't purely fan merch-based so that people who don't have EXACTLY the right circumstances can still make these things and have space to hire people to help them. Government subsidies, LARGE grants, and private big dollar investors are needed.

It wrecks people's bodies and lives and it's not fair to the creators that they can't do anything in their life except make their damn show. You wouldn't want that for anyone else in any other industry, so why do this to artists?

Do you have kids? Do you have a physical impairment? Do you just have an old-ass computer? These things will slow you down A LOT and it basically weeds out anyone who can't work at the top of their game 100% of the time. It's extremely inequitable.
