I don't think the frontier labs ever seriously red teamed the concept of widespread democratization of coding and how it could destabilize the entire internet. Sure, they could put limits but open weight models won't have those.

Bartmoss did what he did to try to end corporate control and only ended up solidifying it. The frontier labs started as nonprofits/pbllcs to try to minimize corporate control from Ai development only to end up being the thing they tried to prevent. Unfortunately, there's no going back.

I don't think it's the fault of AI per se. I think it's the fact that we built the modern world on systems that were only ever secure because of the assumption that cyber capabilities were limited and there were finite resources to hunt for exploits. AI only democratized access to those capabilities
