My final (first) story about the merger for #JOU4970 is complete and turned in! This story was a challenge with just how complex the merger between @elonuniversity.bsky.social and @queensuniv.bsky.social is. My story shifted from my original pitch about its costs and looking specifically at funds...

...to focusing instead on how Elon's lack of transparency surrounding the merger, its reasons and costs has led to concern about poor financial management, staff layoffs and a failure to involve the schools' communities.

Other sources in my story include professors and alumni from both schools, administrators at Elon, an Elon board of trustees member and others who were able to give me insight on their opinions on the merger.

I loved hearing all of the feedback I received from yesterday's editorial board. Praise, critiques, suggestions, you name it and it benefits my writing. If anyone needs another set of eyes over break, I'm happy to take a look! #JOU4970

I learned today is that focus is important and deep dives take a LOT of time, but reporters need to keep the big picture in view at all times. After research on what curriculum was previously used in classrooms, I realized it added little to the story I was telling. Still, context is nice! #JOU4970
