@mkosse.bsky.social@mkosse.bsky.social → @maureenkosse.bsky.socialNotice how there really isn’t a famous, dedicated anti-trans movement led by men, with a clear male POV? That’s not because women are more transphobic (exactly the reverse), but because men don’t *need* anything like that to carry out dominance over trans people. They already have what they need.
Show PostThe first line of transphobia isn’t women like JK Rowling. It’s the men who rape and murder their trans girlfriends. It’s the cops who molest trans arrestees. It’s the parents who abuse their gender non-conforming kids and kick them out into the street. All this happens without public outcry.
Show PostAt its heart this oppression is probably the most like misogyny, is arguably an expression of misogyny itself. And like misogyny, it has often been able to run at full strength even in informal, local, “all in the family” ways.
Show PostWe could define transphobia as the oppression of children and adults who defy social sex categories and end up feminized in some form: for their bodies, for their psychology, for their deviation from sexual norms.
Show PostMen having the unlimited power to rape, exploit, and kill trans women and girls is all that’s needed to cement transphobia as a system of violence. That, and families having sovereignty over their children, including the sexual identities of those children, even into adulthood.
