Before the east coast wakes up and I get in trouble, let me offend an entirely different group of people and note that I don't think this is Americans so much as "non city people" - regular public transport users simply have more spatial awareness drawn from long experience of being part of a crowd

Our local cycle campaign and town council have applied for planning permission for a path - a couple of miles through a park, no car users will be harmed in the process. It has 80 “constraints” and 125 “documents” attached to it. No wonder it’s taken years to get to this stage.
