On independence day here, I just wanted to post something positive. #Moldova is a delightful country, with friendly people, magnificent wine, great places to eat, and much more. People seem to expect a grim ex-Soviet gulag! I've never regretted moving here, not for one minute. You should visit!

As the world marks 40 years since the Chornobyl disaster, I'd recommend watching a short film entitled "Murind pentru Madrid" (Dying for Madrid), the crazy story of a Moldovan folk dance band sent to Chornobyl in 1986 to perform for liquidators cleaning up after the explosion ...

While I cannot comment on the situation entirely, I was there a couple of years ago and my Romanian tour operator cancelled my Moldovan tour, though I went anyway. That said, it must be daunting for the residents near the border.
