In this end game the stakes get increasingly high, and the moves become more dramatic, desperate, and damaging. Ukraine should and will win but the destruction is a terrible cost.

Trump has always been an asset for Putin, and that asset’s power and capabilities are about to be significantly constrained. Now is the time for Putin to exert maximum influence on Trump.

Putin believes that he can maintain a stream of terrorist attacks longer than the west is willing to aid Ukraine. He is playing to Trump's mental handicaps by playing against his narcissistic need to feel important.
