Honestly, the cynic in me says its about boosting ties with Saudi for potential economic benefits, plus a bit of 'Britain is doing things'. Re. Ukraine, 100% some parallels to be made, but also admittedly more complicated, especially noting that Russia is a nuclear-armed state.
