We pay enough that these people should be able to do their fucking jobs. The time spent dealing with the private sector bureaucracy is a cost to people that never gets captured.

"You didn't owe X" is very different from "You are sometimes able to spend hours of your life arguing your creditors into giving up on the claim that you owe X". In one of them, you can just go to sleep every night, in the other one, you have to fight to save your assets.
